Congratulations to the sixteen men and women from the Shenzhen advisory office of Kane Davis Cooper Private Wealth Management (kdcltd.com) took part with varying degrees of success in the Shenzhen International Marathon held on Sunday, December 17th.
The fitter participants managed to complete the full distance, while others and some of the more senior members of staff took on the half marathon or six-kilometer distances.
Runners raised over 47,000 CNY (around $7,000) through sponsorship linked to the distances covered. Local charities, such as Shenzhen Min Ai Disabled Children’s Welfare Center and the Shenzhen Disabled Persons Federation were the prime beneficiaries of the run.
A spokesperson from Kane Davis Cooper who wished to remain anonymous said that all the staff members had a great time and are proud to be able to give something back to the city they have come to call home. A number of the runners from kdcltd were expatriates, but the local staff members shone brightest, coming in as both the first man and first woman from the company with times of 3 hours 25 minutes and 17 seconds for Zhang Dongpeng, closely followed by Jīn Shiwen in 3 hours 42 minutes and 3 seconds respectively.
Evans Kipchichi Sambu set the course record for men last year with a time of 2 hours 10 minutes and 28 seconds, and three years ago in 2014, Elfneshe Melaku Yadon set the women’s record at 2 hours 34 minutes and 23 seconds.
The annual Shenzhen International Marathon has gained a reputation as one of China’s most important marathon events, according to the Marathon Office of China Athletic Association.
The city of Shenzhen has also blossomed over the last few years transforming into one of the major financial centers in China and the region.
The most individual sponsorship raised was by Gong Kai who managed to run the half distance and bring in 4,450 CNY ($690) which was matched by the company.
